Bella translates from Italian as "beautiful" and verde translates as "green."

We know Italy is a beautiful country with lovely people. This isn't by accident. Beauty is such a large part of Italian culture that they live by a philosophy called "la bella figura," loosely translated as "the beautiful figure." This philosophy explains, perhaps, why we are drawn to Italy. La bella figura asks that each person tries to create loveliness in their appearance and actions (manners, speech, etc).

Bella Verde strives to connect that philosophy to our work. We wish to create beauty in everything we do, from our plants to our business.

How Bella Verde Farms Started

Phil and Karen Zoet started Bella Verde Farms after replacing a grove destroyed by an ice storm in 2013. Karen studied different types of trees to plant in their new grove, finally deciding on the Colorado Blue Spruce Tree. Many Colorado Blue Spruce's have varied shades of blue-green throughout. However, Karen desired a spruce with the same blue-green color instead of varied.

Once they had planted their new grove, many people who drove by admired the trees, often stopping and asking about where the trees originated from. Phil and Karen concluded they had found a business they would find interesting in retirement. The following spring, they ordered their first trees and, hence, Bella Verde Farms began!

The Colorado Spruce's beauty can soothe and relax a person after a hectic day—a true beautiful green! Phil and Karen wish to bring this peace to others through their trees and whatever else they choose to expand into.

Future Plans

Currently, Bella Verde Farms grows the two types of trees: the Colorado Blue Spruce and the Vanderwolf Pine. Karen and her husband plan to expand Bella Verde Farms as it grows. While they are uncertain exactly how they will grow, they plan on expanding their variety of trees, expanding beyond trees, and doing tree consulting. Bella Verde Farms also helps with moving trees, though only currently on a limited basis.
